International Nail Art Day!

Hey everyone! If you’ve been following the GIOGO girls (and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be – they’re awesome!) then you’ll know that today is International Nail Art Day! It’s obviously cause enough for some celebration here at ManyManis, but August 3rd also happens to be my dearest mother’s birthday!

I tried and tried to plan the perfect, super extravagant look to fit this wonderful day but couldn’t settle on one idea. Instead, I give you multiple manicures to celebrate!

Butterfly Stamping

First up: Butterfly and floral stamping using Julep’s Audrey and Lauren.

And the next: another one-stroke flower attempt using OPI’s Goldeneye and Rumple’s Wiggin’, Zoya’s Snow White, and Sally Hanson Complete Salon Manicure’s Plum Luck.

And last (also my current mani!): a gradient with polka dot outlines using Julep’s Susie, and OPI’s Rumple’s Wiggin’.

That’s all for now, folks. How are you celebrating this beautiful day?

Many Monday – One Stroke Flowers

I have long been in awe of and intimidated by the one stroke technique for about a year now. I put off trying it by using the excuse that I didn’t have the right brush for the job, but since my birthday this past winter, that’s no longer valid. Even so, this past weekend was the first time I ever tried the one stroke technique and I must say I’m pretty proud of the outcome!

I started with a gradient using OPI’s Pearl of Wisdom and Lucky Lucky Lavender before adding the flower petals in each corner using Zoya’s Snow White and A England’s Lady of the Lake. Feeling like that still wasn’t enough, I added the dots around the other nail edge using a dotting tool.

Trend Tuesday – Textured Talons

Oh, the alliteration! I had to, I’m sorry.

Since learning about OPI’s Liquid Sand polishes included in the Mariah Carrey collection, I’ve been keeping an eye out for other brands following suit. The idea was just so wacky and weird that others were bound to jump on the texture-train. It actually feels a lot like it did when crackle nails were a thing…

Obviously, I’m only listing a few. I’m sticking to the ones I’ve most recently observed, but don’t forget about the caviar mani and the velvet mani! I do not personally own any of the textured polishes that have come out recently, so I’ll just provide you with links to some swatches.

opi-liquid-sand

I did have the opportunity to nab some of OPI’s Liquid Sand colors, but they just didn’t appeal to me enough…and from the swatches I’ve seen, I’m glad I didn’t get them. Sure, it would be fun once in a while, but I’ve decided they’re just not for me. Maybe I’ll eventually get the minis…we shall see.

You can see OPI’s Liquid Sand colors here.

Zoya-pixie-dust-nail-lacquer-collection

Zoya has a fairly similar collection, dubbed Pixie Dust. These ones actually caught my eye more than the OPI ones…I think it’s mostly due to the colors, but also partially because of the finer and more consistent glitter they use, where OPI’s are of varied sizes. I’m still not really jumping out of my seat with excitement (probably because I still like my sparklies to be…well, sparkly!), but I think I’ll end up at least getting Godiva and Nyx.

You can see Zoya’s Pixie Dust colors here.

Another textured line is Nails Inc.’s Concrete collection. These ones, however, are not glitters and aren’t completely matte. I think the similarity comes in the form of the the bumpy, not smooth nail surface, rather than the finish.

You can see Nails Inc’s Concrete colors here.

What do you think of all these textures? Which ones make your heart beat faster?

Rewind Wednesday – Christmas Mani

I actually attempted two Christmas themed manicures this past holiday season, but the first one lasted all of 5 minutes before I took it off, and then I didn’t have time to post pictures of the second one! I did these nails on Christmas eve before attending my brother’s birthday dinner (he’s actually a Christmas baby!) and then it was Christmas day and then I spent a week skiing in Tahoe! So I guess this qualifies as rewinding a bit.

Mani Monday – I’m Back!

For the first time in about two months, I’ve actually done something cool with my own nails. Since it’s been a while, I really couldn’t even decide what to do, so I did everything! These are probably the girliest nails I’ve ever done and I love them!

I started with a gradient then tried using Konad plate m75 with for my first real stamping experience! I then topped everything off with a sparkly topcoat 🙂

It’s My Birthday!

It's my birthday!

It’s finally here! Time to leave my teen years behind. Obviously I’m going to celebrate it with some HIMYM references.

I don’t have a real post today, but I absolutely had to update you all on the wonderful presents I’ve received so far (all but one are polish related!).

My lovely boyfriend took me out to a birthday dinner at Max Brenner’s on Friday (it’s a restaurant whose menu revolves around chocolate! Absolute heaven.) and surprised me with early gifts. Lavender roses, sparkly earrings, white chocolate and the following:

Rhinestone wheel! These will certainly go over well with the ballroom team 🙂

15 piece brush set from Mash!

And last but most certainly not least:

Chanel Sky Line

Chanel’s Sky Line! I have been lusting after this beauty since the first promotion pictures showed up and never thought I would get my hands on it.

My current birthday mani (which is actually bday mani #3 hehe) is Zoya’s Aurora because it’s basically me in a bottle. Purple, sparkly holographic, and named after my favorite Disney princess, what more could I want? Aurora was part of my birthday present to myself along with Fei Fei and Tru, so they obviously had to be my first bday manis. I will post pictures of the other two at a later date, but for now here’s Aurora!

It was a little difficult to get pictures because the weather here has been so miserable, but here’s one in natural/dark light.

And one with indoor lighting, making Aurora look a lot darker than in reality. But look at those sparkles!

I was hoping to have a simultaneous 50 FB “likes” and birthday giveaway, but alas I’m still lacking on the “likes.” I do want to say a great big thank you to all of you who have been following me for a while. I hope to be posting a lot more soon with winter break coming up, especially because I have so much to work with now!

Until next time!

So, it’s been a while…

And I’m really hoping I’ve finally found my grove and will be back to posting regularly soon.

To start off, I guess I’ll review the past month+ that I’ve missed.

About a month ago, the girls on my ballroom team got together for a ladies night of Mean Girls and nail painting in preparation of a competition. Obviously, I went and shared the love of polish!

My mini supply

Fingers and toes!

And the finished results!

I even attempted at doing a water marble manicure on one of the other girls…but, let’s just say we need to work on our aim as the design kept ending up on her knuckles /:

Also recently, of course, was Thanksgiving! I actually was lucky enough to fly home this year, though it was only for a few days. Instead of going all in and doing a Turkey day design on my tips, I opted to go patriotic as my home studio’s dance party was USA themed.

I’m kind of wishing I had done something like this for the 4th of July as I received a lot of compliments on this mani!

And last for now, I just received my birthday present to myself in the mail yesterday! Using Zoya’s Black Friday promotion, I ordered three polishes I have been lusting after for a while. I present to you Aurora, Tru and FeiFei!

I just put on FeiFei and I think I may try painting some snowflakes on my nails in the morning. I will post pictures of my first beauty either way (:

Thank you guys for sticking with me and I’m glad to be back in action!

Madeline Poole Gradient

When I first saw Madeline Poole’s gradient using American Apparel’s new sheer shades, I fell in love. Now, I don’t actually own any of the colors but I knew I had to try the look. Obviously, mine is nowhere near as gorgeous as MP’s, but it was so much fun trying to recreate this look. There’s even a tutorial for the look that you can follow if you’re just as intrigued as I was!

I tried to keep the colors as close to the original hues as possible, but I soon figured out my stash isn’t as diverse as I thought /:

Here’s the original manicure:

I absolutely love how the colors work so well together. You wouldn’t think purple and orange would flow so effortlessly together, but they’re absolutely gorgeous!

Here’s my fun take of that pose:

And more pics of my mani!

As you can see, I changed some of the colors. I didn’t have a yellow (not a single one in my stash!) so I chose some different colors I thought would make pretty pairs. Also, I’m kind of wishing I’d switched the greens on my pinky and middle fingers, but oh well! I may have to attempt this look again (:

I think my favorite nails are my ring (purple and orange) and and pointer (pink and red) fingers. I think the pink and red gradient would make a great Valentine’s Day mani!

On another note: My mother is a wonderful person, though she kind of enables my nail polish addiction (: When I lamented the lack of yellows in my stash, she surprised me with Zoya’s Pippa!

We also had a rather hectic weekend and she surprised me again with some of Essie’s new Mirror Metallics shades and two minnies!

The essie’s will definitely be coming back to school with me on Monday, so you’ll see more on them soon!

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! I’ll be spending mine packing and stressing about moving back to Boston. Hopefully I’ll be able to post again mid-week (:

Zoya Pinterest Trio

Remember when Zoya had the Pinterest Trio Promotion a couple of weeks ago? You can bet I was one of the first in line! I even set an alarm on my phone for ten minutes before the code went live (:

Obviously, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Pinterest trio, especially because they were the most popular three colors in Zoya’s Surf collection. A couple days later (they were super fast!) I received my minis of Zuza, Myrta, and Kimber. I immediately started thinking of fun things to do to show off all the colors and this is what happened!

I think I’m going to call this a geometric tape manicure. I started out painting all of my nails completely with Zuza, because that was the color I was looking forward to most. I then cut out triangles of various sizes and shapes and did (mostly) random patches of Kimber and Myrta.

I must say, I think I’ve gotten better at tape manis. Perhaps I was more patient this time, or the colors dried faster, but I didn’t end up peeling any of Zuza off when applying the other two, and my lines were straight! (For the most part…)

Also, I may have to attempt a french tip again soon because I think my hands are getting steadier. I had to clean up a few of the lines, but I almost forgot which nails I’d done it too because the lines were nice and straight.

I’m still a little sad that they were only minis, because I do love all three colors so much. But I can’t complain when all I had to pay was shipping! Perhaps I’ll treat myself to full size bottles when the minis run out (as they are sure to do).

Until next time! Have a fabulous weekend, everyone (:

It’s been almost a month since I last posted. I’ve been so busy lately that my blog and my nails have been feeling very neglected. Despite my lack of time and the unending list of things to do, I somehow managed to fit a few manicures in. I even took some pictures! Because I had no time to post them then, I’ll be posting them over the next week as I finish my first year of college!

Let’s start off with what may be my best gradient manicure yet!

Using OPI’s Panda-Monium Pink as the base, I knew I wanted to keep with the pink trend but I didn’t like my options (I’ve already sent the majority of my collection home for the summer). On a whim, I decided to use Zoya’s Faye, which I have never tried before. I was actually expecting it to look a lot like Tiffany, but where Tiffany was pink, Faye was much more purple and the gold flakes were more prominent. While the two look the same in the bottle, their actual differences really surprised me. I’m so glad I got them both, they’re such gorgeous colors.

And now for the pictures! I did two layers of Faye for the gradient so as to make the gold more intense.

And a close up!

This manicure also helped my ballroom friends realize just how obsessed I am with nail polish and nail art. I inspired a couple of the girls to try out the gradient using their own colors and I’m really glad I have more people to share the fun with!

Stay tuned for my polka dot manicure later!
