Sharing Saturday – Ballroom Beauties!

Last weekend was my team’s ballroom competition, and during the set up the day before I got to paint a whole bunch of nails! I had done my own to match my dress with my A England beauties (Princess Tears and Lady of the Lake) and added a generous amount of rhinestones, because you can’t have ballroom without sparkles!

One of the other girls wore a dress whose main colors were green, red and nude, so we did her nails to match as well!

Here’s a closer view of the rhinestone gradient as an accent nail:

I also did another purple manicure for a friend named Davlyn, whose natural nails are absolutely ridiculous! Look at how long and well shaped they are! I’m so jealous.

Like me, she got two different colors of purple rhinestones 🙂

And finally, a picture of the purple princesses of the ballroom team, including me (right) Davlyn (center) and my wonderful co-blogger Audrey (left)!

Do you see what I mean about sparkles and ballroom going hand-in-hand?

We have another competition next weekend, and I’m hoping to do something different next time, so stay tuned if you love rhinestones!

ALSO! You have one more day to enter the giveaway, so don’t forfeit your chance to win the gorgeous shades of HITS Tango and Foxtrot!

Surprises Revealed!

Thank you all for helping me reach 50 “likes” on Facebook! I know to some that number may seem small, but I’m really proud of each follower I gain.

Over the past few months I’ve struggled to provide you all with constant content, and because of this have spent the past couple of weeks thinking about the future of this blog. I would never want to give up, because I love the nail blogging community dearly, but I knew I couldn’t keep a constant stream of content on my own at this point in time.

On that note, I’ve decided to ask one of my wonderful friends to become a co-blogger!

Audrey was one of my first “converts” when I started this blog, and I have had so much fun sharing tips and tricks and seeing the awesome things she has done with her nails. If you’ve been paying close attention, you’d know that I’m a ballroom dancer and that I’ve even referenced some of the other girls on the team. Audrey is one of them and she is super excited to share her love of sparkles with you all! Her first post will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Surprise #2 is our first giveaway! 50 “likes” seemed like a good enough reason to celebrate, but now we have even more reason thanks to Audrey! In honor of our love of dance, I’ve found two Hits polishes named after two of our favorite dances 🙂

Mani Monday – SYTYCD Nails

I’m attending the So You Think You Can Dance auditions on Thursday of this week and obviously needed an awesome set of nails. It’s partially for confidence but also just in case I get a chance to talk to Cat because I’ll need something to say! Anyway, I’ve had my eye on this design for a while and saw Wicked Nails’ interpretation of it on Tumblr, so I thought it would be great to try out for this occasion.

Here’s how it ended up!

As you can see, I added a little extra with a rhinestone on each nail. I am a ballroom dancer after all!

I also used completely different colors than both of the above examples because I wanted the look to be even flashier. Almost everyone I’ve interacted with since I’ve had this mani has loved it. It is by far one of my favorite manis ever 🙂

Mani Monday – James Bond!

So, I finally watched Skyfall about a week ago during my last weekend at home and could not stop gushing about Severine’s nails (or as I called them, claws). And her dress in the casino scene made me drool…but those nails!

Since I had yet to get my own claws on ANY of the OPI James Bond colors, after seeing the movie it wasn’t even an option to wait any more! The very next morning I bought Goldeneye, Skyfall, and Tomorrow Never Dies. I was realllyyy tempted to also get The Living Daylights, but ended up leaving without…my mind still might change.

Anyway, I obviously had to use Tomorrow Never Dies ASAP, as it was the color I was most anticipating. I have a thing for blurples, but I’d forgotten how hard it is to photograph them 😦

So, here are my inaccurate pictures of the beautiful TND, along with a guest appearance by Goldeneye and some stamping! (I used TND for the stamping, and the color there is actually pretty accurate).

I also (in a second attempt to photograph the color accurately) tested out the rhinestones my boyfriend gave me for my birthday. As a ballroom girl, rhinestones make me so happy! I will definitely be using them again very soon.

As you can see, despite the dozens of pictures I took in various different lights, I was still unable to catch the true beauty of TND. Oh wells, guess I’ll have to try again… 🙂

Once my nails have grown a bit longer, I think I’m going to try Severine’s manicure, so keep tuned!

Sharing Saturday – Christmas Mani

My first example of street nails is kind of cheating /: it’s also combined a bit with Rewind Wednesday as it was a mani I saw before Christmastime.

Over the past semester, I have been spreading my love for all things polish to the girls on my ballroom team. I’ve mentioned before that we’ve gotten together and had a girls night (or two) with movies and manis, but occasionally they’ll surprise me with creations of their own and it makes me so proud!

Here is one such mani done by my friend, Emily! (She’s also wearing some pretty awesome rings)

I’ve been thinking that I may just make Saturdays into “Social Saturdays,” that way I can post online submissions too! If you’ve created a look that you’re particularly proud of and would like me to showcase, send me a message or email me at manymanicures@yahoo.com 🙂

So, it’s been a while…

And I’m really hoping I’ve finally found my grove and will be back to posting regularly soon.

To start off, I guess I’ll review the past month+ that I’ve missed.

About a month ago, the girls on my ballroom team got together for a ladies night of Mean Girls and nail painting in preparation of a competition. Obviously, I went and shared the love of polish!

Fingers and toes!

And the finished results!

I even attempted at doing a water marble manicure on one of the other girls…but, let’s just say we need to work on our aim as the design kept ending up on her knuckles /:

Also recently, of course, was Thanksgiving! I actually was lucky enough to fly home this year, though it was only for a few days. Instead of going all in and doing a Turkey day design on my tips, I opted to go patriotic as my home studio’s dance party was USA themed.

I’m kind of wishing I had done something like this for the 4th of July as I received a lot of compliments on this mani!

And last for now, I just received my birthday present to myself in the mail yesterday! Using Zoya’s Black Friday promotion, I ordered three polishes I have been lusting after for a while. I present to you Aurora, Tru and FeiFei!

I just put on FeiFei and I think I may try painting some snowflakes on my nails in the morning. I will post pictures of my first beauty either way (:

Thank you guys for sticking with me and I’m glad to be back in action!

Leopard Print Manicure

Hello all!

So, I just realized that I’m way behind on posting my recent manicures. When it comes time to transfer pictures to my computer I just get so lazy ):

Anyway, as Wednesday is Independence Day, I will be holding off on posting some of my recent manis until after. But for today I have what may be my new favorite look!

I have been obsessed with all things leopard print since kindergarten. I distinctly remember another girl in my kindergarten class telling me she liked my “cheetah” print shirt and I responded with “IT’S LEOPARD PRINT.” So, yeah. This is definitely a look I should have tried at the very beginning of my adventures into Nail Art Land, but I just never got around to it until now.

Without further ado, I present to you my leopard print nails:

(These first few were taken under florescent lighting.)

And because I couldn’t get enough of this manicure, I had to take more pictures under natural lighting too (:

The first thing everyone asked my after seeing these nails was “who did this?!” closely followed by “how did you do this?”

So, in case you haven’t seen any of the wonderful tutorials out there on the interwebs yet, here’s how I did it:

I painted two coats of China Glaze’s Fast Track over my base coat. Then, using OPI’s Warm and Fozzi, I added little dabs to form the spots. The hardest part for me was outlining the spots with a black nail art brush. I really need to investigate more helpful brushes, the one I use is way to long for me to handle comfortably. But, I managed just fine I think!

My entire ballroom studio was in love with this look (partially because it matched the carpet…) and I have a feeling I’ll be trying a purple version of this very soon!

Enjoy and I hope you’ll check back on Wednesday for my first ever 4th of July nail art!

And Then Disaster Struck…

You may have noticed that my nails in the polka dot manicure are significantly shorter than normal. Two Sundays ago, the ballroom team hosted an event called Dancing with the Professors. I danced in the showcase piece and the entire night went so well! By the end of it though, I noticed that one of my nails kept getting stuck on my skirt…lo and behold the ugliest break I’ve seen in a while ):

It was on my right hand, so I was able to snap a few shots of my other hand before cutting all of my nails down.

I was looking a little yellow on the ends there, so I’m not too sad about the change. But still, I had so much fun painting my nails when they were long and I don’t know what to do now!

Hopefully they’ll grow back quickly (:

Polka Dotty!

Something so simple, but I never tried it before last week! Here’s pictures of my first ever polka dot manicure. Again, it inspired some of my ballroom girls to try the look out for themselves! Sadly, mine only lasted about two days. I need to find a new base coat…suggestions?

I had one friend say that these reminded him of Tutti Frutti Jelly Beans! Yummy (:

It’s been almost a month since I last posted. I’ve been so busy lately that my blog and my nails have been feeling very neglected. Despite my lack of time and the unending list of things to do, I somehow managed to fit a few manicures in. I even took some pictures! Because I had no time to post them then, I’ll be posting them over the next week as I finish my first year of college!

Let’s start off with what may be my best gradient manicure yet!

Using OPI’s Panda-Monium Pink as the base, I knew I wanted to keep with the pink trend but I didn’t like my options (I’ve already sent the majority of my collection home for the summer). On a whim, I decided to use Zoya’s Faye, which I have never tried before. I was actually expecting it to look a lot like Tiffany, but where Tiffany was pink, Faye was much more purple and the gold flakes were more prominent. While the two look the same in the bottle, their actual differences really surprised me. I’m so glad I got them both, they’re such gorgeous colors.

And now for the pictures! I did two layers of Faye for the gradient so as to make the gold more intense.

And a close up!

This manicure also helped my ballroom friends realize just how obsessed I am with nail polish and nail art. I inspired a couple of the girls to try out the gradient using their own colors and I’m really glad I have more people to share the fun with!

Stay tuned for my polka dot manicure later!
