Many Monday – One Stroke Flowers

I have long been in awe of and intimidated by the one stroke technique for about a year now. I put off trying it by using the excuse that I didn’t have the right brush for the job, but since my birthday this past winter, that’s no longer valid. Even so, this past weekend was the first time I ever tried the one stroke technique and I must say I’m pretty proud of the outcome!

I started with a gradient using OPI’s Pearl of Wisdom and Lucky Lucky Lavender before adding the flower petals in each corner using Zoya’s Snow White and A England’s Lady of the Lake. Feeling like that still wasn’t enough, I added the dots around the other nail edge using a dotting tool.

Throwback Thursday – Skyfall’s Severine

Remember my post about finally procurring some of the lovely OPI Bond shades?

Around that time, I decided I wanted to grow my nails out with the specific purpose of attempting the lovely Severine’s manicure. I just could not take my eyes off her nails while watching the movie! Unfortunately, I’ve got some stubby nails now (hence the lack of posting on my part), so it’s a good thing I tried out the look then.

Here’s a pic of the gorgeous Bond girl and her talons for reference.

Throwback Thursday – Spring Flowers!

Back when it was the first day of spring (over a month ago…whoops), I attempted my first floral mani! I drew inspiration from a manicure I saw around Tumblr that had polka dots on each nail except the accent nail, which had a floral print. I don’t remember who did it, but I will try to find it again for reference! It was just such a cute spring look and an easy way to test out doing floral without committing to a whole manicure.

Sharing Saturday – Ballroom Beauties!

Last weekend was my team’s ballroom competition, and during the set up the day before I got to paint a whole bunch of nails! I had done my own to match my dress with my A England beauties (Princess Tears and Lady of the Lake) and added a generous amount of rhinestones, because you can’t have ballroom without sparkles!

One of the other girls wore a dress whose main colors were green, red and nude, so we did her nails to match as well!

Here’s a closer view of the rhinestone gradient as an accent nail:

I also did another purple manicure for a friend named Davlyn, whose natural nails are absolutely ridiculous! Look at how long and well shaped they are! I’m so jealous.

Like me, she got two different colors of purple rhinestones 🙂

And finally, a picture of the purple princesses of the ballroom team, including me (right) Davlyn (center) and my wonderful co-blogger Audrey (left)!

Do you see what I mean about sparkles and ballroom going hand-in-hand?

We have another competition next weekend, and I’m hoping to do something different next time, so stay tuned if you love rhinestones!

ALSO! You have one more day to enter the giveaway, so don’t forfeit your chance to win the gorgeous shades of HITS Tango and Foxtrot!

Mani Monday – Lace Nails

I freely admit to the world that I am a huge Victorian/Regency Era fanatic, and I was in a Jane Austen sort of mood when I decided that I wanted to make lace nail art. So in honor of Mani Monday and my first blog post (and Jane Austen!), here is my first nail art to share with you all!

The lace was all hand-drawn using Sally Hansen’s nail art pen. Although my inner artist is satisfied with how the lace came out, I’m not too sure if I will be doing this mani again any time soon simply because it was so time consuming.

I look forward to sharing more nail-art-fun with you all!

Surprises Revealed!

Thank you all for helping me reach 50 “likes” on Facebook! I know to some that number may seem small, but I’m really proud of each follower I gain.

Over the past few months I’ve struggled to provide you all with constant content, and because of this have spent the past couple of weeks thinking about the future of this blog. I would never want to give up, because I love the nail blogging community dearly, but I knew I couldn’t keep a constant stream of content on my own at this point in time.

On that note, I’ve decided to ask one of my wonderful friends to become a co-blogger!

Audrey was one of my first “converts” when I started this blog, and I have had so much fun sharing tips and tricks and seeing the awesome things she has done with her nails. If you’ve been paying close attention, you’d know that I’m a ballroom dancer and that I’ve even referenced some of the other girls on the team. Audrey is one of them and she is super excited to share her love of sparkles with you all! Her first post will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Surprise #2 is our first giveaway! 50 “likes” seemed like a good enough reason to celebrate, but now we have even more reason thanks to Audrey! In honor of our love of dance, I’ve found two Hits polishes named after two of our favorite dances 🙂

Rewind Wednesday – Matte Magic and Basic Shapes

Found a post that never actually got posted! Happy first day of Spring!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is one of my simpler manicures, but I didn’t have any tools with me (not even any tape!) so I’m pretty happy with the result 🙂
I originally wanted to try a look I’d seen around earlier this year, kind of the precursor to border manicure, but I couldn’t even find the original pictures! In the end, I kind of just decided to do a tape mani minus the tape.
Using OPI’s Meet Me On The Starferry, I painted all of my nails. Then, using China Glaze’s Dress Me Up, I did random shapes on my left hand and mirrored them on my right. I’m getting better at straight lines! The above picture is the original look (please excuse the messiness around the cuticles) before I decided it wasn’t cool enough and I needed to make it a matte mani!
What do you think? Did you like it better shiny or matte?
Mani Monday – SYTYCD Nails
I’m attending the So You Think You Can Dance auditions on Thursday of this week and obviously needed an awesome set of nails. It’s partially for confidence but also just in case I get a chance to talk to Cat because I’ll need something to say! Anyway, I’ve had my eye on this design for a while and saw Wicked Nails’ interpretation of it on Tumblr, so I thought it would be great to try out for this occasion.
Here’s how it ended up!
As you can see, I added a little extra with a rhinestone on each nail. I am a ballroom dancer after all!
I also used completely different colors than both of the above examples because I wanted the look to be even flashier. Almost everyone I’ve interacted with since I’ve had this mani has loved it. It is by far one of my favorite manis ever 🙂
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day so far 🙂
I’ve had this mani on since this past weekend, but obviously had to keep it on for today. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it and I can’t get over the gorgeous red rhinestones. I also got to use one of my birthday presents from a friend of mine, China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps, which has been on my lust list for a really long time!
Mani Monday – Rhinestones!
I started at least attempting to get into a Valentine’s mood, but I don’t actually have very many pink polishes at school with me 😦
So what else to do but use pink and red rhinestones! I wanted to try making a heart shape with the rhinestones, but it was only my second time using them and my placement method needs work.
Here’s how they turned out instead! (And I apologize for the pictures, for some reason it was really difficult to keep the camera focused on the rhinestones!)
