Mani Monday – End of Summer Sparkles

Last week my mother, sister, and I took a dangerous trip to my favorite nail polish spot. It’s one of those little wholesale places where everything is pretty much half price and it was the best discovery I ever made! Now, I usually go in with only $20 so I can limit my purchases…but for some reason this wasn’t a problem this time. I walked out with a lone bottle of Seche Vite and that was it! Guess I just wasn’t feeling any of the options? I’ll have to go back before I’m off to Boston again though! Point of the story though, is that my mom and sister nabbed some pretties and I obviously had to try some of them out. I went for my sister’s bottle of OPI’s Mimosa for Mr and Mrs, which is a lovely light pink. Being me though, I had to add some sparkles!

International Nail Art Day!

Hey everyone! If you’ve been following the GIOGO girls (and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be – they’re awesome!) then you’ll know that today is International Nail Art Day! It’s obviously cause enough for some celebration here at ManyManis, but August 3rd also happens to be my dearest mother’s birthday!

I tried and tried to plan the perfect, super extravagant look to fit this wonderful day but couldn’t settle on one idea. Instead, I give you multiple manicures to celebrate!

Butterfly Stamping

First up: Butterfly and floral stamping using Julep’s Audrey and Lauren.

And the next: another one-stroke flower attempt using OPI’s Goldeneye and Rumple’s Wiggin’, Zoya’s Snow White, and Sally Hanson Complete Salon Manicure’s Plum Luck.

And last (also my current mani!): a gradient with polka dot outlines using Julep’s Susie, and OPI’s Rumple’s Wiggin’.

That’s all for now, folks. How are you celebrating this beautiful day?

Mani Monday – Watermelon Nail Art

This is a bit of a throwback, and not my current manicure but it’s a super summery look and it was a lot of fun to create and to wear. I had seen some fruit themed manicures circulating around the internet recently and decided to try my hand at a watermelon manicure because I had the right colors for it!

Simple and sweet, just like the fruit that so perfectly embodies summertime!

Swatch Sunday – Julep’s Favorite Things

Julep had a warehouse sale a couple weeks ago, and as I’ve never tried their polishes before, I jumped at the opportunity! I found a couple single colors I liked and then stumbled upon the Favorite Things 2012 Nail Color Jewelry Box, which contained all the colors I had wanted and more! It also contained two special polishes named Audrey and Charlotte, which is obviously cool for Many Manis 🙂

This is going to be a very picture heavy post, so bear with me and enjoy!

Throwback Thursday – Mint Mixed Mani

About two weeks ago, I went shopping with my dearest mother. We noticed about halfway through that we kept gravitating toward any article of clothing that was relatively mint green in color. Obviously, my next mani had to match the mood!

A England Holographic Gradient

How have I not posted this before? I did this beautiful manicure towards the end of the summer and it is by far my favorite manicure I’ve ever done. And it’s a simple manicure too! All I did was do a gradient with A England’s Princess Tears and Lady of the Lake. Both are beautiful purple holographic polishes, but PT is a lavendar leaning silver and LotL is a deep, dark purple.

Sorry for the lack of clean up /: I was just too eager to get pictures of this pretty combination.

Here you can see the more silver side of PT, as well as the full holographic effect of both colors.

And a close up to see how well the two colors blend together!

I will definitely be recreating this look again because I absolutely loved it. How could I not? It combines pretty purples and sparkles, two of my favorite things!

Sadly, the weather is getting colder and the darkness is coming in Boston, so my pretty holos might have to wait.

Del Sol – Color Changing Nail Polish!

“Color-changing Nail Polish by Del Sol is the wonder of the sun at your finger tips! Indoors, the nail polish is one fun color. But outside, Del Sol’s exquisite, color change nail polish turns a dramatically different hue. Some styles feature glitter, too. From indoors to outside, and back to indoors, Del Sol Nail Polish gets attention as it changes.”

Del Sol is a company that sells apparel and accessories that change under UV rays. About a year ago, my boyfriend and I discovered one of their 100 stores and wandered in. I’d been in stores like it before, but I was extremely excited to find out that they had over twenty colors of changing nail polish! Obviously, I wanted to grab as many as I could, but I left the store empty handed that day. A year later (earlier this month), my boyfriend bought three bottles for my mother’s birthday and surprised me with three bottles too!

Now, I know “mood” polish has been around for a while, and I even have an old Forever21 color changing polish stashed somewhere in my room, but I am so impressed with DelSol! I meant to do some swatches last weekend before a week-long trip to San Diego, but never got around to it. During the week, I was super surprised to see that Shannon over at Eyemasq had also discovered this awesome brand! She’d even swatched the color I ended up wearing to San Diego!

For now, I swatched my three DelSol colors: Electrick,  Pretty In Pink, and Ruby Slipper. Sometime before I head back to Boston (sooo….within the next week) I will swatch my mother’s colors too.

Eeeek, what a lot of writing. Okay, here come the actual pictures! (All are with basecoat and three coats of color, no topcoat)

First up: Electrick.

Before Sun

After Sun

I have to say, I was really sad about the application of Electrick. These pictures are from the second time I tried to swatch it. The first time, it was watery and insanely streaky until the third coat. By the time the third coat dried, it was definitely less streaky, but oh my god the bubbles. I have never had a polish bubble as much as Electrick did. I’m guessing it’s because of how watery the formula is and I probably did too thick of a third coat to try to get rid of the streaks, but after trying to wear it again a week later..meh, still not so happy. It was also the slowest changing of the colors when placed in sunlight. So pretty though ):

Pretty In Pink

Before Sun

After Sun

I absolutely adore Pretty In Pink. I first wore it on my toes, because I could tell it would be sheer. I tend to be a little particular when it comes to visible nail line, but I think I’d make an exception for this one. She’s just so pretty both in and out of the sun! I wonder what it would be like to do a french manicure with this…hmm thoughts for the future.

Ruby Slippers

Ruby Slipper is another one that gave me a moment of hesitation due to VNL. My first thought was to try it as a layering glitter, but literally the second I stepped into the sun this polish changed my mind. It is absolutely gorgeous. And it was super easy to remove! I will definitely be trying this one again soon. Perhaps I’ll try layering it over a nude or a white?

You can order any of the DelSol polishes online and I definitely suggest you check them out!

My Kind of French Mani

Hello all and happy August! I’m not quite ready to give up my summer brights yet, but I did break out two colors from OPI’s Hong Kong collection that seemed a little more fall worthy to me.

Remember how I said in my last post that I wanted to try a french manicure again soon? Well, soon meant directly after I posted that! But I didn’t want to do the usual sheer pink with white tips, oh no, I wanted to use my favorite color PURPLE for the tips. And a little shimmer never hurt anyone either, so I picked out OPI’s Meet Me On The Star Ferry and Pearl of Wisdom for this mani.

Unfortunately, I only snapped a few quick picks of this mani before it started to chip ):

I did absolutely love this combination though! I wish I had been able to keep it on longer.

I ended up taking it off mostly because of the chips on my pointer fingers (and a break in one!) but also because I received my package from A-England! I’ll be posting more about that adventure soon (:

Zoya Pinterest Trio

Remember when Zoya had the Pinterest Trio Promotion a couple of weeks ago? You can bet I was one of the first in line! I even set an alarm on my phone for ten minutes before the code went live (:

Obviously, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Pinterest trio, especially because they were the most popular three colors in Zoya’s Surf collection. A couple days later (they were super fast!) I received my minis of Zuza, Myrta, and Kimber. I immediately started thinking of fun things to do to show off all the colors and this is what happened!

I think I’m going to call this a geometric tape manicure. I started out painting all of my nails completely with Zuza, because that was the color I was looking forward to most. I then cut out triangles of various sizes and shapes and did (mostly) random patches of Kimber and Myrta.

I must say, I think I’ve gotten better at tape manis. Perhaps I was more patient this time, or the colors dried faster, but I didn’t end up peeling any of Zuza off when applying the other two, and my lines were straight! (For the most part…)

Also, I may have to attempt a french tip again soon because I think my hands are getting steadier. I had to clean up a few of the lines, but I almost forgot which nails I’d done it too because the lines were nice and straight.

I’m still a little sad that they were only minis, because I do love all three colors so much. But I can’t complain when all I had to pay was shipping! Perhaps I’ll treat myself to full size bottles when the minis run out (as they are sure to do).

Until next time! Have a fabulous weekend, everyone (:

I Won a Giveaway!

Last week, I was the lucky winner of Galactic Lacquer‘s 350 follower giveaway! You may remember it from my Giveaways page here on the blog. Anyway, it’s my first ever win and therefore probably the most exciting nail mail I’ve gotten in a while!

Corrinnee, the lovely lady behind Galactic Lacquer, posted pictures of the prize in her giveaway post, but I wanted to take some of my own when I received the goodies.

First up are the non-polish goodies!

I’ve wanted to find some striping tape to play with for quite a while, but never got around to it. I’m so excited now!

And here are the polishes:

Look at how vibrant those colors are!

In case you are as curious as I was, here’s some quick swatches of each polish.

I was so eager to try them that I didn’t clean up at all, I’m sorry. Both the red glitter and the yellow polish are with two coats while the rest are only one.

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll have noticed that I didn’t swatch the sparkly teal polish. Fear not! I thought that one was so pretty that I had to do a full manicure with it. I used the shimmery blue/green color from above underneath and one coat (one coat! look at that sparkle) of the glitter on top.

The color kind of reminds me of peacock feathers.

And boy, do I love sparkles!

I hope you’ve liked this post. I’m so excited to be able to share my first giveaway win with you all. Hopefully I’ll be able to host my own someday (:
